ACSD to Launch iTECH Academy

Students and families in Abbeville County will have an additional school option beginning this fall with the introduction of the iTECH Academy. Technology Enhanced Classrooms & Homes, iTECH, is the new ACSD Instructional Technology Program.  As part of the larger technology initiative, the new iTECH Academy will offer a complete online instructional program for students facilitated by our teachers.

For the 2020-2021 school year, ACSD will follow guidance set by the AccelerateED Task Force and DHEC to determine the safest method for reopening our schools. Based on the most recent data provided by DHEC, the District will operate according to the level of risk as indicated in the chart below.

Alternatively, parents have the option to enroll their children in the iTECH Academy. Students participating in the iTECH Academy will remain enrolled in Abbeville County School District and be taught online by ACSD teachers, using devices provided by the District.  Parents will be responsible for providing the internet services for the student. Students in the iTECH Academy will be accountable for attendance, participation in instruction, completing assignments, and demonstrating mastery of the content.

The iTECH Academy is not to be confused with remote learning, which was implemented as an emergency response to the COVID-19 shutdown last spring.  The iTECH Academy emerged as a result of feedback from parent surveys and school stakeholder meetings.  “ACSD is committed to providing school choice options that meet the needs of our students and families.  iTECH is a great option for parents who have health and safety concerns amid the COVID-19 pandemic and for students who prefer working through an online platform, knowing they will receive direct instruction from an ACSD teacher through a rigorous curriculum,” said ACSD Superintendent, Dr. Julie G. Fowler.

More information on ACSD’s iTECH Academy, including enrollment procedures and answers to frequently asked questions, will be available on our website.  If you plan to enroll your child in the iTECH Academy, please complete the form in the link below by July 16th.  This information will be posted on all of our social media platforms, as well as through our messaging system for all parents.
