This call is to inform you that we will not have a Summer Reading Camp this year. Please encourage your child to read over the summer break. Westwood plans to continue to work with all students who are not reading on grade level during next school year.

If your child received a Beta Club invitation and have not paid your child's Beta Club dues, please send $25 to Mrs. Stanley by tomorrow. If you need to set up a payment plan please arrange that with Mrs. Stanley. All checks need to be made payable to WWES. Your child was given info today to join the Beta Club Class Dojo page. Please make sure to do so as soon as possible. Thank you!

Congratulations to all of our Westwood students who have earned the privilege of participating in our 4th nine weeks Green Zone Water Day! This party will be tomorrow, Wednesday, May 24th. We ask that your child bring a change of clothes and a towel in a plastic grocery bag to change into after water day. If possible, please allow your child to wear shoes that can get wet (flip flops, water shoes, Crocs). If not, please send an extra pair of shoes. The wet clothes will be returned in the grocery bag.

Due to inclement weather conditions, our Perfect Attendance Event was cancelled today as well as the PBIS Celebration scheduled for tomorrow. Both events will be re-scheduled if at all possible.

4th Grade students at Westwood will take the Science portion of the SC READY test tomorrow, May 17th. This is the last state assessment for this school year. Please make sure your 4th grade child gets plenty of rest, eats a good breakfast, and arrives to school early. We are proud of how hard ALL of our students have worked on the state assessments! A special "Thank You" to the parents for your support and efforts to make the testing days smooth and successful.

SCReady testing will begin on May 9th. ELA testing will be on May 9th and 10th. Math testing will be on May 16th. Science testing will be on May 17th (4th grade only). There will be a perfect testing attendance party on May 18th. Makeup testing will take place on May 11th, 12th, 15th, 18th, and 19th.

Preparing for SC READY assessment: It is extremely important that students arrive at school on time. We ask that all appointments and other out-of-school functions be scheduled (or rescheduled) on other days when SC READY is not planned. We feel students test better when they take the test on the scheduled SC READY testing days. Thank you for your cooperation and support. Students may not be in possession of any electronic devices during the test administration that can be used for communicating, recording, timing, creating images, or storing images with the exception of necessary medical devices. The devices will be collected by the teacher and returned after each test session is completed. Resources regarding testing such as brochures, sample items, sample score reports, Score Report User's Guide, translations, and alternate formats for these resources are available on the school web page and the SCDE Website. Westwood Elementary School's fire alarm was initiated. There was not a fire. The fire department has secured the building and everyone is safe.

Theatre Camp

Inclement Weather Message: To ensure that bus routes are completed before the winds arrive, we will start buses 15 minutes early today. Car riders will dismiss as normal. A robo call/SMS message will go out that states buses will depart 15 minutes earlier today to ensure our students and drivers arrive home safely before the severe weather. Again, just as yesterday, all after school events are cancelled.

The safety of our students is always the top priority for the Abbeville County School District. Based on the most recent information from the National Weather Service, Abbeville County School District will be operating on a normal schedule tomorrow (Friday). However, severe weather is expected tomorrow afternoon. The arrival time and severity of the system could warrant an early dismissal. If guidance from the National Weather Service indicates that the system will arrive earlier than the current forecast, then we could dismiss students from schools early. We would provide you with as much advance notice as possible. We will monitor the system throughout the morning hours to make a determination on dismissing early or continuing to operate on a normal schedule. Thank you.

Good Afternoon! Westwood Elementary School will be conducting its state mandated active shooter drill tomorrow (Thursday). Protocols and procedures are being, and have been, shared with your student. Please be aware that this is only a drill.

Westwood Elementary regrets to announce the postponement of our Spring Dance. We apologize for any inconvenience, however the timing of possible inclement weather dictates our decision. We want the best experience for our children and have rescheduled the dance for next Friday, March 10th, at the same time (6pm - 8 pm).
